Peak locations in all-pass signals - the Makhoul Conjecture Challenge

چکیده
In [ l ] the Makhoul Conjecture Challenge was published. To answer was the question whether or not the location of the peak of a digital stable all-pass filter lies in [0, 2p-11, where p is the order of the all-pass filter. In this paper we construct numerous counter-examples, prove a new theorem stating that there is at least an upper bound on the order of p3’2 for the location of the peak, and discuss the algebraic structure of all-pass filters and their impulse responses. The paper is heavily based on an experimental approach.

Plume outflow intrusion impact on acoustical signal fluctuations in a pre-stratified environment
Existence of outflow intrusion introduces small-scale turbulence that perturbs the vertically stratified character of the sound velocity and causes spatial and temporal fluctuations of the sound propagation. In this experimental study, we have investigated acoustic wave propagation with frequency of 50 kHz in a pre-stratified environment with intrusion of a turbulent plume while the si...
متن کاملDiscrete-Time Signal Processing and Makhoul’s Conjecture
This report surveys the role that polynomials and algebra play in investigating some fundamental properties of all-pass signals and systems. All-pass systems are an important concept in the theory of discrete-time signal processing. In particular, we summarize work regarding Makhoul’s conjecture on the locations of peaks in the impulse response of an all-pass system (also called an all-pass sig...

Apart from regular wheel wear such as decreasing wheel diameters and reduced flange thicknesses and heights, wheel flats (WF) and oval wheels (or OOR, Out-Of-Roundness) are the most common wheelset problems for railway vehicles. Within the FP7 Research Project “Saferail”, APT has developed an innovative wheelset monitoring system so-called “Wheel flat and Out of Roundness Monitoring (WORM) syst...

متن کاملMRS Shimming: An Important Point Which Should not be Ignored
Introduction: Proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) is a well-known device for analyzing the biological fluids metabolically. Obtaining accurate and reliable information via MRS needs a homogeneous magnetic field in order to provide well-defined peaks and uniform water suppression. There are lots of reasons which can disturb the magnetic field homogeneity which can be corrected by a proc...
